For Cristina Carteri, business is all about family. After unexpectedly losing her job with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region’s Hearing Aid Plan, Cristina found herself in uncharted territory. But, she knew she had to chart a new path quickly because she and her husband were expecting their third child.

As luck would have it, Cristina had the opportunity to attend an entrepreneurial seminar that opened new doors for her. With the help of Jasmine Gray at Audacity YQR, Cristina was able to find a way to use her new and old skills in both the business and health worlds. She then teamed up with Tim Xie, a Business Services Specialist at Regina Public Library, to pull the plan together.

Those skills would be the foundation for Optimal Hearing, which offers products and care to address many adult hearing needs. Engaging with individuals as friends — and more than as clients — Cristina and her colleague, Debbie (who also worked at the Hearing Aid Plan), have found a mini-community has formed with the office as a hub.

“It’s amazing to have so many people stop in to say ‘Hello’ and chat over a coffee. We really get to know each other, to see and hear about the improvements in individuals’ quality of life. It’s satisfying to have these wonderful interactions.”

Optimal Hearing’s services include hearing evaluations and at-home visits, as well as hearing aid fittings, maintenance, and repairs. Patients come from all walks of life, and Optimal Hearing has the products and care that suit their lifestyles and needs. This includes carrying multiple manufacturers and including services such as payment plan options. This combination allows them to have a broad range of price points and promotions.

Cristina is happy she was able to follow her passion, which shows in the great service she and Debbie bring to customers. When asked what the passion was, Cristina’s characteristic energy comes through: “Helping people to hear better, or in some cases hear again, makes a huge difference in one’s quality of life, ability to engage socially, maintain relationships, and impact one’s ability to perform their activities of daily living. It really helps them live their best life.”

Experiencing hearing loss or having a loved one experience the same can be difficult for anyone to deal with under the best circumstances. Cristina and Debbie provide the technical know-how to help their customers and have created a family environment that adds the extra support their clients are seeking.
