Asian Fusion, Food with Flare
Whether you’re in the mood for Japanese, Korean, or Chinese cuisine, you can enjoy all three at Urban Sushi & Grill, a popular Asian fusion restaurant in Emerald Park. Since taking over the business in 2015, chef-owner Henry Ryu has been wowing diners with dishes that reflect his diverse culinary skills.
Originally from Seoul, Henry studied cooking at a private culinary institute there and also lived in Yokohama, Japan for several years. Being immersed in both cultures helped him develop his unique approach to creating Asian fare. “My customers enjoy fresh, high quality foods that are visually fantastic,” says Henry. A popular traditional dish is the Hot Stone Rice Bowl, known in Korea as Bi-Bim-Bop. Warm white rice is topped with marinated, sauteed vegetables and tender slices of beef served in a hot stone bowl with the option of a fried egg on top. Other Korean dishes include Spicy BBQ Chicken and Spicy BBQ Pork. And don’t miss the Bul-Go-Gi and BBQ Beef Short Rib!

Authentic Japanese dishes include Nigiri Sushi (sliced raw fish on rice) and Sashimi. Choose from options such as salmon, tuna, kani (crab stick), ebi, (prawn), masago (caviar), unagi (eel) and hokkigai (surf clam). Henry also recommends the U-Don Noodle Soup.
While Henry has loved cooking for years, it wasn’t his first career path. Prior to becoming a chef, he worked as a developing engineer in auto transmission for passenger cars. Making the leap to follow his passion paid off. “I took on a big challenge in my life,” he says. “I’m doing what I love to do and couldn't be more excited.”
Henry’s creativity flourishes developing Urban Sushi & Grill’s Special Rolls. The Tuna Flower Roll features diced spicy raw tuna on top of a California roll and deep fried shredded potato. The Dragon with Fireball is loaded with BBQ eel, avocado and masago (fish roe) on top of a California roll with Fireball (spicy raw tuna ball) and unagi sauce. “Making new menus is one of the delights for my customers,” says Henry.
It’s easy to sense this delight in customer reviews of Urban Sushi & Grill. Glen B. wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page: “Wonderful flavours beautifully presented. This small town gem is every bit the sushi restaurant I have experienced in larger cities.” Amanda B. wrote: “I have NEVER had sushi so amazing!! The rolls were huge, and the price was fantastic.” And Andrew G. called it “The best sushi in Saskatchewan.”
With an inviting atmosphere and friendly service, Urban Sushi & Grill helps diners feel comfortable and relaxed. Along with regular table seating, the restaurant features floor tables for an authentic Korean dining experience. Sitting around a floor table is a fun way to share dishes such as the Urban Tower — with salmon and tuna tartar, avocado, crab mix, shitake and wasabi mayo — or one of the menu’s Urban Trays, with a mix of rolls, nigiri and tempura.
Urban Sushi & Grill is available for dine-in, takeout and delivery. Customer Maddy F. says it’s her “favourite sushi place in the world.” We won’t be surprised if it becomes your favourite, too.
