Beauty Care: Full Hair Services & Gel Nail Enhancements
Settle into a black leather tufted chair at Mirror Mirror Beauty Parlour, and get ready to feel like royalty. Located in Regina’s booming East End, the upscale parlour offers full hair services and gel nail enhancements in a beautiful, inviting atmosphere.
“When you’re spending time and money on beauty, you want to feel pampered,” says Tamara Styck, who opened Mirror Mirror with co-owner Courtney Christensen last May. “Our clients feel confident they’re going to be taken care of.”
With nearly two decades of experience in the beauty industry between them, Tamara and Courtney shared the vision of creating a business focused on the client experience. The concept of Mirror Mirror is inspired by the famous line “Magic mirror on the wall; who is the fairest one of all?” from the story Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The fairytale feel is incorporated into the parlour in a modern way, with wide-framed metallic mirrors, chandeliers, a sparkly stone wall and Ring Pops for the kids. “We have a lot of fun with the brand,” says Courtney. “It’s the only beauty parlour in the Queen City.”
Mirror Mirror’s team of stylists has expertise in all hair services, from cuts and fashion colors to extensions and updos. Tamara, who doubles as a stylist and the parlour’s nail technician, offers gel nail enhancements with an assortment of colors, sparkles and the latest trends.
As part of the client experience, Mirror Mirror stylists ensure they take the time during your consultation to understand exactly what you’re looking for. As Tamara explains, this is the first step in building trust and rapport. It also provides an opportunity to clarify language used in the beauty industry to describe various looks and techniques. “We want to get to know who our clients are and make sure we understand each other,” she says.
The staff receives ongoing education through Redken, ensuring they are always current with techniques and product knowledge. “Through Redken, we have access to the fashion gurus and hair professionals that work on 5th Avenue in New York City, so our education is from the masters in this industry,” says Tamara. “It’s great to network with fellow artists and we’re always learning something new.”
Along with serving clients, Mirror Mirror is a business that gives back to the larger community. This fall, they participated in Condoms on the Catwalk, a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood Regina. Saskatchewan fashion designers such as Dean Renwick created outfits made out of condoms for the event, and Mirror Mirror styled the models’ hair. “It’s important to be a part of local things,” says Tamara. “We definitely want to do other community events.”
Looking ahead, Tamara and Courtney envision adding more services to Mirror Mirror such as lashes and other esthetics. “We have that entrepreneurial spirit, and we work really hard to reach our goals,” says Courtney. Staff positions are currently available at the parlour, and Tamara and Courtney welcome beauty industry professionals to apply.
