Breakfast Bistro + Luna: Local Brunch, European Flair
As I walk in the door of the Breakfast Bistro, I’m greeted by gentle music playing peacefully through the speakers and the hustle and bustle of a busy kitchen. Once you’ve passed the entrance (which will become the doors to the Breakfast Bistro’s sister restaurant, Luna, later in the day) you’ll find a beautiful room full of unique furniture and little touches that give the space a modern but comfortable feel.
Breakfast isn’t just for a quick bite to eat at the beginning of the day. More and more, it’s a way to celebrate life’s milestones. That’s where the Breakfast Bistro comes in. Having opened its doors in 2014, the restaurant is relatively new to the Regina restaurant scene. However, Head Chef Niki Haritos and her parents have been in the restaurant business for ages, and their newest venture’s unique menu items, all locally sourced and made from scratch, have already made a big impression.
“I felt Regina was missing an option for elevated breakfast food,” says Niki. “There are chain restaurants and basic fare that get the job done. But what we offer are options that are unique, delicious, and inspired by quality ingredients used in different ways.” The restaurant’s menu is available on their website, and their Instagram posts drool-worthy pictures of some of their amazing dishes. But what are some of Chef Niki’s favourites? “Our Truffle Bennie is a personal fave,” says Niki.
And the people of Regina seem to agree. In 2019, the Breakfast Bistro was voted No.1 in the city for their eggs benedict, which comes in six different varieties. Another bonus? The restaurant’s patio overlooks a beautiful reservoir — a hidden gem in east Regina. The incredible food and views will call you back. But, if you can’t wait until breakfast to enjoy more fantastic dishes, you need to wait only a few hours until the space transforms into Luna.
Luna Kitchen & Bar
Luna opened in 2016 and offers inspired European dishes. Many of the staff are new to Canada, so you know the food is brilliant and authentic. What would Chef Niki recommend for supper? “The Creamy King Prawn Pasta and the Mussel Duo are both amazing,” she says. (I would have to agree; both have caught my eye on Luna’s eye-catching Instagram page).
In both restaurants, Niki says she is obsessed with the process of service from kitchen to table. “We’re getting out from-scratch food at a chain pace, meaning everything is done with both care and efficiency,” says Niki. “We’re a popular spot, so it can be tough to match the pace of service with the quality our customers come to expect, but day in and day out at both locations, we get it done.”
Plus, Luna is open to weddings and other events where you will have full access to their entire staff, in addition to a private room so you can enjoy an amazing meal with up to 28 of your favourite people — in what is sure to become your new favourite place. And when you wake up the next morning? The Breakfast Bistro will be there waiting!
