Let Lovestruck Portraits Capture Your Wedding Memories
You don’t have to be a romantic to be a successful wedding photographer, but it certainly doesn’t hurt! For Chelsea Cameron, owner and principal photographer at Lovestruck Portraits, her favourite moment to capture is the groom’s reaction when he sees his beautiful bride for the first time. It’s an emotional moment every couple remembers forever, and something Chelsea loves being a part of.
“It’s one of the happiest days of everyone’s life and most little girls dream about it growing up, so it’s a really big day,” she says. Now in her 13th year of professionally photographing weddings, Chelsea brings creativity and genuine enthusiasm to her work. Her photography roots go back to an early love of cameras, thanks to a plastic orange camera from a McDonald’s Happy Meal she received at the tender age of six.
When she was 12 years old, Chelsea began second shooting weddings and learning the ropes from her uncle, who was a wedding photographer in southern Saskatchewan. When her uncle sadly passed away five years later, she was determined to continue on with her passion and went to photography school to build her skill set.
With more than 200 weddings and an international wedding photography award under her belt, Chelsea’s expertise has earned glowing reviews and referrals from clients. She even placed second for best professional photographer in Saskatoon’s Planet S Magazine in 2017. When asked for an insider’s piece of advice, she said to make sure your photographer is second in your budget, after the reception.
“You want someone with experience and knowledge who can handle anything that’s thrown their way. It’s important to make sure your personalities match and you get along with your photographer because you’re with them all day,” Chelsea adds.
Known to bring her positive attitude wherever she goes, Chelsea ensures the bridal party enjoys themselves while she snaps the perfect shots. Rather than just taking formal posed photos, she keeps the day relaxed by making everyone laugh and capturing intimate candid moments. She loves to think outside the box and has even done a Harry Potter wedding shoot before!
“One thing I always hear from the bridal party is that they’ve never had so much fun on a wedding day. I usually go for coffee with my clients to get a feel for their hobbies and interests, whether that’s pets, kids, motorcycles or fishing tackle. I incorporate it so their photos have a personal touch.”
Lovestruck Portraits offers versatile wedding packages, including partial and full-day coverage. Chelsea cleverly points out the importance of asking to see an example of a photographer’s past full-day coverage, to ensure they have the proper equipment and experience. “You want to ensure their photography is consistent for the day, from start to finish, or you won’t be happy with the product,” she adds.
Chelsea’s readiness to go above and beyond is clear. She is locally based in Saskatoon but is willing to travel, including previous destination weddings in Toronto, Banff and Jamaica. She often continues with clients after their wedding too, shooting boudoir, maternity, newborn and family sessions.
“I love forming relationships, whether that’s with clients or by mentoring other photographers who second shoot for me. I like to support the industry because I think everyone’s wedding photos should be amazing!”
