Lino & Vinyl & Laminate — Oh My!
With so many innovations in home flooring, laminate flooring has come a long way — a forced situation so it can compete with the waterproof features and durability of luxury vinyl.
The Newer Laminate Has Good Soundproofing
Shannon Forrester of Floor Coverings International says that when clients hear the word laminate, they immediately think of that flat, loud clicking maple coloured laminate that was all the rage in the 90s. In fact, a newer laminate with a good sound proofing underlay makes it almost indistinguishable from its higher-end relatives such as luxury vinyl and hardwood.
While laminate might not offer the same waterproofing as luxury vinyl, it is water-resistant with a barrier that repels water for up to 72 hours. This makes it perfect for areas such as living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, entryways and kitchens where waterproofing is not absolutely necessary.
Laminate is Durable and Low Maintenance
Laminate also requires very little care, and in fact it tends to show fewer footprints and water marks than luxury vinyl. As well, durability testing has proven that laminate resists scratching better. The high definition optics makes it easy on the eyes with the knots and lines representing real wood, and a micro-bevelled lacquered edge giving it the illusion of individual planks.
Rolled Luxury Vinyl is Waterproof
For those areas that do require waterproofing, such as bathrooms and laundry rooms, rolled luxury vinyl is the perfect accompaniment. Reminiscent of its linoleum predecessor, rolled luxury vinyl is incredibly durable while maintaining a fresh look. Gone is the sheen and cracking of Grandma’s linoleum kitchen floor; modern day luxury vinyl comes in a variety of fun patterns and colours such as honeycomb hex.
At the end of the day, you don’t have to go after high-end finishes like oil-rubbed hardwood and porcelain tile to revamp your home. You can get the same fresh look and feel within your budget thanks to the thousands of products and expertise available to you through Floor Coverings International. As Shannon says, “We can do anything. We just want to find the right product for you!”
