Meet Jerry Lupul, one of Refined’s Experts
Jerry is the owner of Lubrication Station and prides himself on having Saskatoon’s only 100 per cent locally-owned and family-operated quick oil change. With a focus on honest and quality service, Jerry is passionate about his customers, his family and everything automotive.
What do you love most about your job? As a family-owned and run business, I love working with my family. I love that I am the “top dog” and that we are completely local because the money made in the city stays in the city. There are no franchises and no absent owner. It’s unique.
What is one thing you are really passionate about? Making sure every vehicle that comes into our shops is safe and roadworthy, and that the driver understands why we do what we do.
What is an interesting fact that most people wouldn't know about you? I actually started my business because of the automotive industry’s reputation. I wanted to be different — a transparent entity in a cloudy world.
What is one piece of advice you would give to your younger self? I’d say to listen to people at least five times more than you speak. Be an expert listener. Also, don’t compromise your principles.
What is the last book you read? The last book I read was No One Would Listen: A True Financial Thriller by Harry Markopolos. It’s about the Madoff Ponzi scheme and Markopolos’ investigation into the investment scandal.
What Netflix show are you obsessed with? I’m obsessed with Still Game. It’s a comedy about two grumpy old Scotsmen going about life in their suburb of Glasgow. Sometimes you need subtitles to understand them, and it can get heavy every once in a while, but it is really great and binge-able.
What would your best Friday night be? Chicago Cubs winning the world series — but that can be on any night!
What habits do you have that are important to your success? Making sure my staff are looked after to the best of my ability. Other important habits include never assuming I know it all, being collaborative and asking for help if I need it.
