Pathways Learning Centre is a new facility in Regina that delivers access to private health and educational services. Opening its doors in October 2018, Pathways offers an inclusive private preschool program, speech therapy, occupational therapy, music therapy and more.

Co-founders Maegan Mason and Cari Thiele are both professional Speech-Language Pathologists. Maegan admits the pair has been “very humbled” by Pathways’ immediate success, particularly the popularity of its preschool program for children ages three to five. The centre also offers a junior pre-school program for two-year-olds.

The preschool program is inclusive and integrates students both with and without communication delays together in a dynamic learning environment focusing on communication and pre-literacy skills. The preschool staff includes a teacher, a speech-language pathologist, a speech-language assistant and a learning support staff member. “We aim for a 4:1 student to staff ratio. It’s our mission to set all children on their best path to communication and educational success as they enter kindergarten,” says Maegan.

Pathways’ reputation has continued to build based on positive word of mouth from their existing preschool families and its social media presence. Maegan and Cari saw a need for the services offered by Pathways after years of working privately with their speech-language pathology clients and their families.

Maegan and Cari received entrepreneurial support through organizations such as Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan (WESK), Square One, and Economic Development Regina Inc. (EDR). Audacity YQR is an initiative to nurture entrepreneurship in the Greater Regina Area that’s supported by EDR.

“Audacity YQR, and the support available for entrepreneurs in Regina, has been instrumental in developing our business. Cari and I aren’t businesspeople by trade – WESK and Square One provided us with lots of guidance with the business planning and market research process. Now we have students coming from near and far!”
