PRETTY CITY by Sara Lindsay: Fresh Faced Makeup
After one of the worst and longest cold snaps that I can remember, spring has actually arrived! Spring brings such a feeling of fresh renewal — and that includes your makeup. It’s time for colour and texture and fresh modern faces! Here are a few simple ideas to shift your makeup look to feel and look light and airy and forget the heaviness of our bitter winter.
Dewy and luminous skin feels and looks so youthful. There’s a big difference between shiny and dewy. You can still have a glow without looking oil-rich. Face Atelier is one of my all-time favourite foundations. With a gel-like texture, it’s undetectable and very lightweight — a true second skin. Bounce it on to your skin with my new microfibre velvet sponge. It feels like heaven.
Use a translucent powder to control the shine just in the t-zone. A wash of cream shadow across the lids reflects light and looks soft and effortless. Pastels and neutral golden browns are all great choices. Ellis Faas and RMS both have great products for this purpose and are a breeze to use.
Versatile products are also a must. There are many products on the market that can do double duty as lip and cheek, but there’s no reason you can’t use your lipstick on your cheek for a monochromatic and fresh dewy blush. Try Stiks Lipsticks for gorgeous colours and a beautiful creamy finish. Top your lips with Eve Lom Kiss Mix for a glossy look. Lip gloss is definitely back on trend this year!
Don’t forget the brows, but keep them simple and natural. Use a great brow pencil to fill in sparse areas with a light hand and brush up with a clear brow gel. My line of brow pencils are in my top three that I’ve ever used — even though I might be a little biased. Use a setting spray that leaves a nice sheen to the skin. It helps keep your makeup in place all day.
