What is a social media fashion influencer?
A fashion influencer is a personality who has a large number of followers on a social media platform, consisting of mainly fashion content and a voice to influence the opinion of others. Brands endorse influencers to attend events and be part of upcoming seasonal campaigns. Blogging is a secret weapon for any online business because it brings in lasting long tail search engine traffic.
How did you become an influencer?
I had wanted to become a blogger for more than a decade, but I had to craft the image and plan what I wanted to share with my audience. In 2016, when I created YanniDelRose.com, my vision display that fashion has no limits, breaking the norm and omitting gender roles. I wanted to display my day-to-day outfits and showcase some of my favourite brands and the roots of my admiration for them. Synonymous with my fashion style, my hair is always changing like a mood ring.
What is a typical day like for you?
My schedule is never the same! Each week and day varies depending on whether I’m shooting outfits, travelling or working on a sponsored blog project. I schedule meetings, collaborations and events in the morning so I can spend a solid chunk of time at my computer later in the day. I’m a night owl and work through all hours of the day, including late night meetings with brands from the UK or Japan, styling product from brands for upcoming photoshoots, answering emails, editing photos and more. My days are packed, but I love every second of it and wouldn’t change it to go back to an office job.
What do you love about being a fashion influencer? What are the challenges?
I love to inspire people through my fashion. Probably the most powerful thing about an influencer journey is learning to believe in yourself, be proud of who you are and have the courage to expose yourself to the world. I am a very creative person and am definitely an advocate of taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone. As an influencer in Regina, I’ve definitely had to deal with weather challenges that can delay outside photography. Working with brands such as H&M, Iron Fist Clothing, Manic Panic, Jawbreaker and many others has been a true blessing. These are brands I’ve always admired and to be working with them now is amazing!
Do you believe the role of influencers will keep growing? What’s in your future?
I believe the future is all digital and that influencers have a larger impact than most people realize. Bloggers are now considered the trustworthy authority for all things fashion and lifestyle and fashion social media bloggers are the very reason we’re falling back in love with the industry. Influencers need to keep innovating, pushing the boundaries and also stick with what works. I want to keep challenging myself to be more creative and original each day. Through my platform, I want to impact the LGBTQ+ community with my fashion statements and keep talking about subjects such as mental illness.
